Movie Review: Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol
The reviews are in and it looks like first time, live-action director Brad Bird has delivered a “bone-crunching action, fleet-footed pacing, and the best Mission: Impossible yet.” According to Collider, the latest installment in the Mission Impossible franchise is just about everything you could ask for from a blockbuster.
There are some silly moments but never to the point where we’re taken out of the movie. There’s a perfect understanding that Mission: Impossible shouldn’t try to be the Bourne films. It’s not about gritty realism. It’s about colorful characters, cool gadgets, and kick-ass action. Brad Bird has made not only the best Mission: Impossible, but one of the best action movies of the past several years.
Charlie Jane Anders at io9 also felt that the film was a ridiculously entertaining spectacle:
By all rights, a fourth Mission Impossible film should be a disaster. A played-out film series, a leading man who’s pushing 50 and a tired Cold War premise should add up to total boredom. But somehow, instead, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol is a splashy festival of crazy.
The film is also currently sitting at a 94% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. So, hopefully I can convince my girlfriend to see it this weekend. I could really use a break from all the holiday cheer and family friendly films that ususally air during the season. Plus, I’m dying to catch the Dark Knight Rises prologue that everyone keeps talking about.
